In 1989 a group of parents of children with learning disabilities got together and decided that they wanted something better for their children (in transition to adulthood) than was available at the time. With the help of local and national charities, professional people and social services Link-Ability was created.
We are a registered charity with our head office in Chorley, Lancashire. We have further Lancashire branches in Ormskirk and Preston. We also have a Greater Manchester branch based in Rochdale.
We are governed by a Board of Trustees who meet regularly to check that everything is done properly and that the people we support are safe and well supported at all times.
We help people with learning disabilities and support them to live the life they choose. The level of care and support is determined by an assessment which is usually completed by a social worker. We work in partnership with health services, social services and housing providers but most importantly with the person themselves and their family and friends.
The people we support experience learning disability. Some people have autism. Some have additional mental and physical health care needs.
When someone comes to us asking for our help, we listen to the views of the person needing that help, the views of the people who know them well and views of the people who care for them most. Collectively we produce a ‘person centred’ plan for care and support.
We want to provide the best care or personal support to meet the needs of people using our services. We do this by making sure that the staff who work for us are employed because of their strong values and that they are well trained to the specific needs of the people we support. All our staff have Enhanced DBS background checks and go through a number of checks to ensure that they are of good character before they come to work for us.
We are an approved provider of Lancashire County Council, NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria ICB and we are approved to work with people who experience learning disability and autism in Greater Manchester.
